Real Physics and Scale
Spacewar online uses real physics and real scale. The game is set in our solar system. Astronomical distances and sizes of planets and moons are accurate. Physics in the game acts according to the real laws of physics. Conservation of energy and mass apply. All vehicles and their behavior are possible within the laws of physics as we understand them today, given sufficient technological advancement.
There are no wormholes, teleporters, or faster than light travel.
One Universe
All players of Spacewar Online occupy the same universe. There are no shards or instancing anywhere in the game.
Two Dimensional
To make the game possible, the universe is flat, and rendered in 2D from above. Planet sizes, distances, rotation, and orbits are accurate. However, for simplicity, all orbits are circular, and axial tilt and orbital inclination have been removed.
While rendered in 2D, the third dimension is used when necessary. For example, friendly ships and weapon fire will safely pass by each other.
